The Quest Sculpture
Kirchbak Gardens, 66th and Lyndale, Richfield, MN

I worked on the life-size sculptures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panchez for about four months. After conceiving the design – which was partially inspired by Picasso’s famous sketch of the pair – I made full-scale wire models of the statues.  Working with scrap steel and copper, I started welding them together, piece by piece over the top of the wire models. As I worked, I grew to appreciate the world weary figure of Don Quixote and his faithful companion, Sancho, who served as faithful squire to Quixote.  The sculpture was completed in 2007.
